Taiwan Mobile Eyes Overseas Investments for Growth

Taiwan Mobile has confirmed that it is considering investing in two overseas telecoms markets, of India and Indonesia.
Taiwan Mobile Chairman Richard Tsai told shareholders at a company meeting that the telecom markets in those two countries have good potential for growth.

He cited the Indian market in particular noting that while the mobile market had high levels of competition, the size of its population still makes it a desirable market, particularly in data communications.

Tsai said that Taiwan Mobile is evaluating the likelihood of teaming up with telecom operators in India to win a slice of the 4G market.
No specific plans have been agreed though.

He added that the company is also looking at possible e-commerce investments in Philippines and Vietnam. Taiwan Mobile owns a 51% stake in an internet investor, momo.com, through which any future expansion would be routed.
