In Brief:SK Telecom takes up chairmanship of Telecom Infra Project 

South Korean operator SK Telecom became the inaugural chair of the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), a global union of companies studying 5G network technologies. TIP has appointed SK Telecom’s chief technology officer Choi Jin-sung as the first chairman . TIP is an organization that studies 5G network technology. TIP members also include Deutsche Telekom AG and Nokia Corp. The organization is made up of 43 companies, with SK Telecom being the only South Korean member. Telecom plans to invite high-ranking officials from TIP members in June, and share ideas on cooperation with 5G network technologies.

***Verizon has reached a tentative agreement with unions over a contract agreement. The deal ends the strike by nearly 40,000 Verizon workers which began on 13 April.The Communications Workers of America (CWA) said members have reached their “major” goals and achieved the first contract for wireless retail store workers.

***Zayo has been selected by Packet, a New York City-based infrastructure startup, to support IP, capacity, flexibility and Ethernet connectivity. Zayo’s high-performance network connects Packet’s New York, Northern California and Amsterdam locations, enabling access to Packet’s bare metal server solutions. Packet is leveraging Zayo’s FlexConnect Ethernet solution and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) ports to provide customers with access to single-tenant bare metal servers at affordable hourly rates.
